International Volunteer Day (IVD) on 5th December was identified by the United Nations in 1985 as an international observance day to celebrate the power and potential of volunteerism. It is viewed as a unique chance for volunteers and organizations to celebrate their determinations, to share their values, to raise awareness of, and gain an understanding for the contribution they make to their communities.
On 5th December, people around the world celebrate IVD with rallies, parades, volunteer fairs, group clean-ups, blood donations, conferences, exhibitions, fundraising, workshops and volunteer recognition events.
“The diverse and dynamic role of volunteerism in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals merits strong support from Governments and other stakeholders. On this International Day, I thank volunteers for their efforts to leave no one behind.”
UN Secretary-General António Guterres
